Shawn McCusker

Shawn spent 25 years as a classroom teacher and school leader in public, private, and alternative schools. He is passionate about using the power of technology to make storytelling a part of student learning. His creative lessons and student products have been highlighted in THE Journal, Educational Leadership, and The Huffington Post. An innovator in creating and organizing online learning communities, Shawn has led the #sschat, #1to1techat, and #engsschat communities on Twitter, and served as the lead organizer for EdCamp Chicago.  Shawn recently co-authored a book “Becoming Active Citizens”, published by Solution Tree. Becoming Active Citizens won the 2022 Foreword INDIES Gold Award for Education, as the best independently published education book in the nation.  He has worked with EdTechTeacher as a trainer and consultant for over a dozen years.   In 2016 he was named a Top Trailblazing Educator on Twitter by eSchoolNews. Shawn received his BA in History from Northern Illinois University and his MA in Educational Leadership from Concordia University Chicago. His column, “The Tech Savvy Classroom,” was featured in Digital Learning Magazine.  Shawn is a Google Level 1 & Level 2 Certified Educator and a Google Certified Trainer. He. is also a a Newsela Certified Teacher Trainer and Educator, a Formative Certified Trainer and Champion, and an Adobe Authorized Training Partner.
